Accrington Stanley interim chief executive Rob Heys has joined Conference side Macclesfield Town as general manager.

Mr Heys rejoined the Reds in November 2015 after resigning from his managing director role in August 2013 after admitting several breaches of the FA’s betting rules.

He was fined £1,000 and banned from all football activity for 21 months.

He has now joined the Silkmen and will oversee off-field matters at the Moss Rose, coordinating the office staff behind the scenes at the football club.

He told the Macclesfield Town website: “I am really excited about joining Macclesfield Town, there is a fantastic team here behind the scenes, and a lot of dedicated people who give up their time to help out.

“The stadium has some really good facilities, and there is a fan base that is clearly passionate about the football club.

“It is a great starting point to come into, and I am looking forward to getting stuck in and playing my part in keeping things moving forward.

“I’ll be working hard to make sure that we are as visible as possible in the local area, developing even closer links with supporters, businesses, and all in the community.”
