A teenager was left with a broken jaw following a sickening assault with a metal pipe in Accrington.

At around 5pm on Saturday the victim, an 18-year-old man, was on Countess Street at the junction with Emma Street when two men ran towards him. One of the men hit him with a metal pipe before punching him to the face, knocking him to the floor and causing him to lose consciousness.

The victim suffered a broken jaw in two places.

Police are appealing for information following the incident at around 5pm on Saturday, June 18.

The man who hit him with the pole is described as Asian, aged in his mid-20s to early-30s, approximately 5ft 11 to 6ft 1in tall, stocky build with short dark hair, a beard and a gold tooth.

DC Bryony Midgley, of Blackburn CID, said: “This was a vicious attack on the victim who has been left with a serious injury to his jaw which requires surgery. We are trying to trace anyone who may have witnessed the assault or has any information that could assist with our enquiries.”
