Thousands turned out to celebrate Bonfire Night at Accrington Cricket Club on Saturday.

Around 3,500 revellers enjoyed a bonfire and an ‘amazing’ firework display as they feasted on sweet treats including treacle toffee and candyfloss, warming burgers and chips and pie and peas.

There was also a fairground for the little ones and a bar for the adults.

Accrington Rotary Club’s Jacquie Baldwin, who co-ordinated the event, along with Great Harwood and Rishton and Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary Clubs, said the event was a success.

She said: “We had a really great turnout.

“The atmosphere was wonderful and the bonfire was huge.

“The firework display was amazing too - it was a real family event.”

The rotary clubs were assisted by Colin Berry and Rod Kenyon from the cricket club, who helped ensure the event was safe for everyone.

Proceeds from the night will go to Broadfield Specialist School in Oswaldtwistle and East Lancashire Sailing Club in Rishton.

The school will use the money to buy equipment and the sailing club will put the money towards a dinghy for disabled people.
