The battle was on to reach the top of Group A with the two unbeaten sides in the Lancashire League’s Twenty20 competition meeting last night.

Accrington were set to meet Church at Thorneyholme Road with both sides having a 100 per cent record in their two games so far.

Church joined Accrington at the top after beating East Lancs by four wickets last Friday.

East Lancs were restricted to 98-6 with tight bowling from Ryan North - conceding just seven runs from his four overs - helping to seal the win.

Openers Ammer Mirza and Sagawat Hussain were out cheaply but pro Luke Woodcock’s 32 and a solid unbeaten 19 from Levi Wolfenden kept Church on course for a semi-final spot.

And there was better news at Rishton as they picked up only their second win in all competitions this season with a thumping of rivals Enfield.

And it was pro Andrea Agathagelou who stole the show by smashing 77 not out with six maximums and four boundaries. He was ably supported by Tiarnan Hamill who hit an unbeaten 40 to by-pass Enfield’s 128 with ease.

Bowlers Matt Lambert and John Seedle played their part earlier, taking three wickets each as Aneeq Hassan (27) and Chris Maudsley (20) were the pick of the Enfield batsmen.
