Baxenden are aiming for Ramsbottom Cup success when they face Ribblesdale League leaders Barnoldswick in the final at New Lane on Sunday (1pm).

And Andy Caunce still will get the chance to lift the trophy if Bash win despite standing down as captain last week.

The new skipper is pro Kamran Younas and Caunce said: "It was for nothing untoward but I just found it hard with a new baby and new job.

"Kamran stepped in to skipper last week but said, if we win, I can go up and collect the trophy as it’s one I have never won which is nice of him."

They do face a Barlick side unbeaten in the league and both are hoping to put a high score on in the cup after what Caunce called a ‘freaky weekend’ of league results.

Bash produced one of the performances of the year to keep pace with Barnoldswick on Saturday.

Bowled out for 56 by Clitheroe at Chatburn Road, champions Bash looked certain to suffer their fifth defeat of the campaign.

However, Liam Riley’s inspirational bowling stint (6-18) helped dismiss stunned Clitheroe for only 24.

The match aggregate of 80 wasn’t a record but certainly raised eyebrows when news filtered back to rival clubs.

Barnoldswick were also involved in a low scoring game just a week after making 234 in their cup success over Oswaldtwistle Immanuel.

However, this time a total of 95 was good enough to make it 12 wins in 16 games for Barlick.

John Baldwin (4-54) and Gerard Metcalf (4-22) were largely responsible for keeping Barnoldswick under three figures.

When Ossie began their reply, Imran Khalid was soon among the wickets, finishing with 6-17 as Ossie were skittled for 57.

"It was just a freaky weekend in terms of scores," said Caunce.

"And I can see it being a tight game on Sunday in the final.

"Hopefully we can both get a few more runs and it will be entertaining for the crowd. We are certainly up for it.

"We would love to upset Barnoldswick as they are on a good run at the moment and, if we can knock their confidence in the cup, they might slip up in the league.

"There are 10 league games left. I was looking at the league table and they need to lose around three at least.

"But we were on a good run last season and lost four on the trot so it can happen. We just have to hope it does."
