ACCRINGTON Cricket Club are through to their first Worsley Cup final since 1989 after a nail biting victory over Burnley.

David Ormerod's side had looked in trouble when they only made 137 with rain delaying play for an hour at Turf Moor on Sunday.

But there were scenes of elation when Damian Clarke took the final wicket with Burnley falling just seven runs short in a tense finish.

They will  face either Todmorden or Ramsbottom, whose clash was rained off, in the final on Sunday August 3 as they look to win the Worsley Cup for only the fourth time in the club's history.

And the club are hoping to do a prestigious double as they currently lie second in the Lancashire League.

It is a far cry from last season where they finished rock bottom of the league and their existence was under threat due to debts of £10,000.
