Chris Cook-Martin is hoping Oswaldtwistle can build on their shock Ramsbottom Cup win over rivals Great Harwood on Sunday.

Immanuel haven’t won yet in the league but their cup win has put them in good mood to take on defending champions Baxenden tomorrow in the Ribblesdale League.

Ossy won by nine wickets on Sunday with professional Cook-Martin making 88 in 83 balls, supporting by 44 from Oliver Clare – although 27 extras contributed to their win.

Harwood’s Amar Ullah made a half-ton but four quick wickets from Andrew Metcalf to take Harwood from 40-2 to 48-5 helped cement the Immanuel victory.

"It’s about time we beat them," said a delighted Cook-Martin (right). "In my three years here we have lost every game to them so we just enjoyed the moment.

"We outplayed them in every department – the batting, the bowling and the fielding – and now we have got to build on that.

"We do have a decent cup side as we have four good bowlers and a decent fifth bowler so it is something we earmarked this season. And, while we did well with the bat, the win was down to Andrew Metcalf who took four wickets in an over."

Immanuel captain Nick Payne certainly enjoyed getting one over on his work-mate Russell Whalley. "There was a bit of banter flying around and I think Russell has always had the upper hand so Nick will have enjoyed the win."

Now Ossy are out to chalk up their first win on the board in the league campaign.

Cook-Martin has already got a century under his belt and has 231 runs in his four innings so far. But he says it counts for little without the points on the board.

"I would rather get a duck and we won than score runs and we lost," he continued. "We have done okay and the two new players – Jon Baldwin and Neil Weaver – have settled in but we do need to get that first win.

"We have Baxenden at home tomorrow and I think they are similar to us – they have a strong batting line-up and it will be a tough game.

"But that win over Great Harwood has given us confidence and we have home advantage. Looking back we have had a tough start to the league and hopefully now we will be firing on all cylinders."

Personally Cook-Martin, whose side face Edenfield in the next round of the cup, is aiming for 1,000 runs. "I don’t bowl so I have got to try and get 1,000 runs as I haven’t done it for the last two seasons.

"Hopefully I can build on an okay start and the club can move up the table."

Baxenden are also through to the next round of the cup following their three-wicket win over Cherry Tree.

Cherry Tree’s 212-3 looked a tough ask for Bash but David Milles hit 81 in 86 balls and scores in the 20s from pro Kamran Younis, captain Andy Caunce and Liam Riley helped them over the line with almost nine overs to spare.

The day before Great Harwood chalked up their first win of the league campaign, seeing off Salesbury. Pro Syed Shahabuddin took three wickets as they restricted Salesbury to 139-8 .

Then the big hits of Shahabuddin – who had a knock of 81 in 79 balls – and Whalley, with 53 in 56 balls, saw Harwood to a comfortable first win.

Bash pro Younas was in seventh heaven on Saturday, taking 7-67 as only Earby’s pro Ali Azmat with 107 caused the champions problems.

They bowled Earby out for 159 and, in a day of big-hitters, former captain Mark Rishton was the Bash hero with 72 from 76 balls.

It wasn’t so good for Immanuel on Saturday as Ribblesdale Wanderers secured a five-wicket win.

Cook-Martin made 41 but they were all out for 119 and, despite going from 99-2 to 117-5, Wanderers weren’t overly troubled.

In the Lawrenson Cup, Oswaldtwistle’s 54 run win over Feniscowles II’s included a hat-trick for Fergus Heyes, returning figures of 5-41.
