RISHTON Cricket Club are hopeful new pro Andrea Agathagelou will go onto big things after he has helped the Blackburn Roaders climb up the table.

The 20-year-old South African, who also holds a Greek passport, is coming to England next season on a cricket scholarship at Old Trafford.

And Lancashire have agreed with Rishton to let him play for them in the Lancashire League for a year as he looks to make an impact in English cricket.

"It came about through Mike Watkinson who was talking to our captain¿John Seedle, who does some coaching at Old Trafford," said chairman Alan Craven.

"Andrea is good for us because he wants to prove himself and also has an EU passport so we don’t have to bother with work permits and visas - things which caused problems for many clubs last season.

"He has got two first class games under his belt and scored 120 in one and 60-odd in another and he is a right hand bat who bowls leg spin. He should also be with us for the full season."

Agathagelo plays for North West and Lions and he has also represented South Africa at Under 19 level. The chairman added: "We last won some silverware in 2007 when we won the league and haven’t had the best of seasons for the last two years in the league - hopefully we can turn it around with Andrea."

Lancashire League champions Accrington, who were officially presented with the trophy for the winning the league for the second successive year at the Lancashire League presentation evening at Burnley Football Club on Friday, have signed home grown talent Will Driver,
