MK Dons 3 Accrington Stanley 1

ACCRINGTON finished their League Two campaign in 20th spot after suffering defeat at play-off battlers MK Dons in the final match of the season.

The defeat was Stanley's seventh successive away loss but boss John Coleman used several of the fringe players after their safety was secured last week.

One of those who made an impact was 16-year-old Bobby Grant who got the nod on the left wing.

He didn't look out of place as he weaved his way into the area and set up David Brown for the opener on 11 minutes.

However the MK Dons, who still had an outside chance of automatic promotion if Swindon lost, came back.

They levelled from the penalty spot after top scorer Izale McLeod was fouled by Leam Richardson.

Captain Sean O'Hanlon put the Dons ahead and sub Jude Stirling completed the scoring but, with news of Swindon winning, Martin Allen's side now have to contemplate the play-offs.

"This game just typifies our away form this season," said Coleman, " But it was a smashing game for the neutral and it was end to end.

"We played some good stuff but didn't take our chances and this is what has happened to us a lot this season.

"They got a penalty and all the top six teams seem to have got one against us and it was cheap.

"Bobby had a smashing game, especially as he is only 16-years-old, but he did tire in the second half, as you would expect."

Coleman confirmed keeper Ian Dunbavin has signed a new one-year-deal but Michael Welch, Mauro Almeida and Sean Doherty have been released.
