ON-LOAN striker Lee McEvilly opened his account for Accrington Stanley with a vital goal in their 1-1 draw with Burton in the Nationwide Conference on Saturday.

The 22-year-old, from Rochdale, rose above everyone else to head home a Peter Cavanagh cross nine minutes from time. It was what Stanley deserved after missing several chances in the first half.

Ged Brannan, on as a substitute after Andy Procter hobbled off injured early on, hit the post with a thumping header while Paul Mullin headed wide on the stroke of half time from a Paul Howarth cross.

However, Nigel Clough's side took the lead two minutes after the interval, when Aaron Webster was unmarked from a corner and headed home.

They could have increased their lead but for some fine saves from keeper Jon Kennedy. And then McEvilly popped up with the equaliser - to keep Stanley challenging for a play-off space.
