I OBVIOUSLY can't say too much about the charges levelled against me which relate to allegations of breaches of the Football Association’s betting rules as it is in the hands of my solicitors Hillyer McKeown but I can confirm that I will be pleading not guilty.

My conscience is clear and I will fight my case all the way to clear my name against these charges.

I want to reassure the fans that as club captain I always have and always will give my best in any match. I always play to win and will continue to do so for as long as the club and the fans want me to.

I was shocked when my name was mentioned and it has been a tough 10 days but the club and officials have been very supportive for which I am grateful. I am hopeful justice will be done. I would like to explain my case but will not be able to do so until the conclusion of the FA procedure.

I was nervous before the Grimsby game as wasn’t sure about the reaction of both home and away fans. It is not a nice situation to deal with but I would like to say that I appreciate the support our fans gave me and the rest of the team. They were really noisy and I hope we rewarded them with our performance on the pitch.

The whole atmosphere was great with 6,500 fans there, the pitch was decent and it was watered which suited our passing play.

And I think it was probably one of our most accomplished away shows of the season as we had so much possession. It was just a great team effort as we played at a high tempo and it was a great goal.

Chris Turner used the skill we know he has to put in a superb delivery and then it was a good header from Michael Symes which he deserved for his performance on the day.

We did also have Kenny (Arthur) to thank for keeping us in it but Kenny’s great saves just seem routine now. Earlier in the season, we would have given him a massive pat on the back but now we are so used to seeing him do it week in week out, that we just accept it.

To be mathematically safe was a massive plus after the game and I think it is credit to everyone at the club, and the hard work that people have put in, that we are still a Football League club. For a side on our budget and with our resources to be safe with four games to go, especially where we were around two months go, is a huge achievement.

But I do also think that accounted for our downfall against Chester on Monday. I think it might have been in some of the player’s minds that we had done the job. Nobody means it but it can happen. Chester are fighting for their lives and they did out-fight us.

Personally, I was up for the game. Again I was apprehensive about the reaction I would get and I was on edge beforehand but once we started playing, the main focus was on the game and it was winnable for us. But we just never really seemed to get anything going forward and that has happened far too often at home this season.

There was contact for the penalty - there was a coming together - but I don’t think Ryan Lowe had control of the ball. You see them given and you see them ignored and it wasn’t to be our day.

Hopefully we can put that right tomorrow at the league leaders, Brentford.
