STANLEY boss John Coleman admitted he had some big decisions to make for the home clash with Notts County tomorrow.

The Reds’ chief put out a strong reserve team against Championship side Burnley - who also had a line-up littered with players challenging for the first team - on Wednesday and, despite the 3-1 defeat, he was impressed with his side.

He said: “They have given me a headache. Phil Edwards did well in defence and Sean Webb stuck to his task. The front two of Leighton McGivern and Lee McEvilly did well and the midfielders did their job.

“I probably have the fittest squad I have had at the club and there is really good competition for places. It is hard.’’

The midfield included David Brown, Paul Carden and Ian Craney, who will all be in contention for tomorrow, while McGivern scored from the penalty spot for the Reds.

And, while Coleman has a wealth of riches at his disposal, he is still looking to add to his squad.

The Reds did miss out on Liverpool left-sided defender Robbie Threlfall who joined Hereford this week, but he is still looking to bolster his squad.

He said: “I was disappointed to miss out on Robbie but we have one or two other irons in the fire. There is a player from the Premiership and one from the Championship we are looking at - and we are keeping our options open.

“We have also had a couple of inquiries about a few of our players. I have managed to fend them off but you can understand that players want to play football and it can make them a little bit edgy if they are not.’’

Coleman will be mulling over his team and admits it is hard to prepare when playing against a side like County who have just appointed a new boss in Ian McParland.

“We had them watched a few weeks ago but the emphasis of the team has probably changed now and they will be full of confidence after their win last week,’’ said Coleman, whose side have won three of their last five games.
