Wes Fletcher is out to be Stanley’s goal scoring machine. The striker came on loan from Burnley on Monday and had a dream debut, scoring in the Reds’ 1-0 win over Bradford on Tuesday in their first League Two win of the new campaign.

Manager John Coleman has said he is still trying to sign another frontman to the Reds cause this season but Fletcher, on loan until January, is hoping to do enough so the Stanley chief doesn’t need to.

Former Burnley and Tranmere striker Ian Thomas -Moore has turned down non-contract terms with Stanley despite training with them this week.

"I just want to score as many goals as I can and hopefully get Accrington near the top of the table," said 20-year-old Fletcher, who lives in Rawtenstall

"I kept tabs on how well they did last season as my Burnley team-mate Kevin¿Long is at the club but I also know Peter Murphy and Alan Burton from back home and so I settled in immediately.

"It’s important for me to get first team football rather than play in Burnley reserves and I want to do well here.

"I was excited to come on Monday and it was good to start straight away on Tuesday and score. I know if I get chances, I will score so hopefully it will continue.

"I know Accrington had a really good season last year and hopefully we can do it again this season.

"To score on my debut is a dream start and now hopefully I can kick on from there."

Stanley didn’t get their first away win last year until New Year’s Day and Coleman wants to make sure that statistic isn’t repeated, trying to get their first victory on their travels early on at Port Vale tomorrow.

"We go to Port Vale full of confidence after Tuesday but we need to get the first away win sooner rather than later as, when you don’t, it begins to drag and gets longer and longer," said the Reds chief.

Left back Kevin McIntyre returns after a one-game ban following his sending off in the 2-1 loss to Southend.

Danny Coid was on the bench on Tuesday and is still battling to recover from a hamstring injury while Leam Richardson is hoping to shake off a calf injury.

Defender Kern Miller, on loan from Barnsley, is out for the foreseeable future with a facial injury. Coleman also admitted he is getting frustrated in his quest to sign Irish midfielder Padraig Amond from Paços de Ferreira in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

The 23-year-old is desperate to play for the Reds and has been training with them and living in Accrington with Coleman hoping to sign him on a six-month deal.

But the Stanley chief admitted: "I am not sure it is going to happen now. His Portuguese side have changed the terms now, wanting us to pay the tax, and we won’t pay that so that could mean the end of that. It’s really frustrating for him and us."

Meanwhile Reds midfielder Ian Craney admits it’s been one of the toughest weeks in his career.

The Stanley vice captain was subbed in the loss to Southend and was on the bench for the win against Bradford.

"It’s been a tough week and it’s been my fault," said the 29-year-old. "I got frustrated against Southend and let it affect my game, I wasn’t doing things the right way, and that’s not like me.

"I have had to have a good talk with myself to sort my head out and just concentrate on playing football.

"I am disappointed in myself but I have had a good chat with the gaffer and I have knuckled down in training and hopefully come out the other side.

"It was a bit of a shock to be on the bench on Tuesday but I have also been battling with a knee injury which is something I have to get right. Not that I am making excuses.

"And the lads did really well without me and now it’s my job to try and get back in the team. You are never too old to learn and I have learnt a valuable lesson."

STANLEY will play Carlisle in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday 6 September (ko 7.45pm).
