STANLEY striker Paul Mullin has been the subject of a bid from League Two rivals Rochdale.

The Dale are believed to have made a five figure offer for the 34-year-old for when the January transfer window opens - with some paid in January and the rest at the end of the year.

Chief Executive Rob Heys confirmed: "There has been a bid by Rochdale but it was nowhere near our valuation of Paul."

Stanley manager John Coleman said: "The club didn’t even consider the offer. Paul is a good player and we don’t want to lose him."

The Reds' record appearance holder has scored five league goals this season and has been courted by a number of clubs during his eight-year stint at Stanley.

He only signed a new two-and-a-half year deal in January this year after he turned down a move to Shrewsbury despite Stanley accepting a £75,000 offer for him.

Mullin will be hoping to increase his five-goal tally at Dagenham tomorrow where Leam Richardson will come back into the squad.

The defender played 85 minutes in a 1-1 reserve draw at Blackpool on Wednesday - Andy Smith scored - and looks to have overcome his stomach injury which has sidelined him since August.

"It will be a boost to have Leam back he is a good footballer and a clever player," said Coleman.

But captain Peter Cavanagh may need an operation on his Achilles despite playing 45 minutes for the reserves. "Cav did play half a game but we will have to wait and see. He gives us a good attacking option so it will be a blow if we lose him."

Stanley stopper Ian Dunbavin has also undergone a double hernia operation this week and will be out for at least four weeks.

Defender Kieran Charnock was carrying a knock in the 1-1 draw with Morecambe on Tuesday but came through the game.

The Reds are currently in 16th place and travel to old non-league foes Dagenham tomorrow, who have been a surprise package this season and occupy a play-off spot.

But Stanley have a good record at Victoria Road - they have won their last four games there, scoring 11 goals and only conceding two in the process.

"We do have a good record at Dagenham and have had some good results there," said Coleman.

"They have scored a lot of goals this season and will be full of confidence but we also have confidence going into that game.

"We always manage to score there so hopefully we can continue our record.

"They are a big physical side and I think they have learnt from last season - their first season in the Football League.

"They have attracted the right kind of players to the club and know how to score goals."

Paul Benson and Ben Strevens have helped the Daggers to 28 league goals in their 14 league games so far.

Meanwhile, the Reds have picked up in their last four games and taken seven points - the same as they took in their first ten games.

"I would take seven points out of four games all the way through to the end of the season as that would take us to at least mid-table," added the Reds chief.

STANLEY’S teenage defender Peter Murphy is out for the rest of the season. The 18-year-old damaged his anterior cruciate ligament in a reserve match against Carlisle earlier this month and faces an operation. Meanwhile winger Bobby Grant is expected back in training next week after having an operation on his knee in August.
