Stanley are ‘optimistic’ December League Two Player of the Month Bryan Hughes will sign a permanent deal at the Crown Ground.

The 35-year-old former Birmingham, Hull and Charlton midfielder is currently on non-contract terms with the Reds but has turned in a string of impressive performances which ultimately led to him winning the League Two gong.

"We are optimistic," said Reds chief Rob Heys. "The good thing about Bryan is that it’s not a financial decision. He has played at the top level and we will have to pay him a fair rate but primarily, he seems to enjoy playing for us, he enjoys training and has said he wants to stay here so we hope to sort out a deal soon."

John Coleman missed out on the Manager of the Month award to Bradford’s Phil Parkinson.
