THE takeover of Accrington Stanley had still not gone through by the time the Observer went to press.

Businessman Dave O’Neill is the frontrunner to take over from chairman Eric Whalley who has 56 per cent shares in the club.

They hope it will be sorted out soon so that the club can start preparing for next season.

Both manager John Coleman and assistant Jimmy Bell are at the end of their three year ‘verbal’ contract which they agreed when Stanley came into the league.

The management are also keen to tie up deals for players such as Jimmy Ryan, Kenny Arthur and Phil Edwards.

"Kenny is one of the top keepers in our league and maybe the one above while Phil has been magnificent," said Coleman.
