Stanley assistant manager Jimmy Bell revealed the club have left no stone unturned in their bid to sign an experienced striker.

The Reds have this week added teenage attacker Micah Evans from Blackburn Rovers to their squad as well as experienced midfielder Bryan Hughes.

But Bell said they have made countless enquiries in their bid to bring in a proven goalscorer and they hope to have one signed up in time for tomorrow’s home clash with Bristol Rovers.

"We are desperate for an experienced centre forward and we have been enquiring everywhere for one this week," said Bell, with Stanley having scored 14 goals in their 16 league games so far.

"It’s clear we need a goalscorer and we have talked to a number of clubs about bringing players in on loan and talked about every striker available. We will move heaven and earth to get one in by tomorrow."

Evans, 18, is hoping to take his chance with the Reds in his month’s loan as Stanley look to move up from 19th in the League Two table while another loanee, James Spray, has returned to Wolves.

"I want to make an impact, definitely, add some extra strength to the team and a couple of goals would be good," said Evans, who is likely to play in the attacking three if he starts. "I’d say that pace is one of my strengths. I work hard and hopefully I will bring a bit of creativity when it’s needed.

"It’s a step up but that’s the challenge that you want. I’m just glad to be here and it should be a good experience."

The Reds have also added former Birmingham and Charlton midfielder Hughes, 35, to their squad on non-contract terms and Bell thinks he can make a big contribution to the team.

"He is a good professional, the way he plays is infectious and I think he’ll help Luke Joyce, Andy Procter, Charlie Barnett and the others in midfield who can watch and learn from the way he plays. He should be a big help to us. He has a lot of enthusiasm and our players can learn from him."

Like the Reds, Bristol Rovers haven’t had the best of starts as they look to bounce back into League One at the first attempt.

Meanwhile Stanley need to get back on track after losing their last three home games.

"We need to get back to winning ways at home and that might mean we have a different approach," said Bell.

"Teams are coming here, sitting back and waiting for us to make a mistake – which we have been doing – and then punishing us. We need to counter-act this."

Meanwhile Bell admitted that being drawn at League One promotion chasers Notts County in the FA Cup first round a week tomorrow is a ‘massive blow’ but they hope the Reds can spring a surprise.

"There were around 80 teams in the draw – 40 non league – and we would have loved one of them at home. It’s a blow not to get a home draw and then a massive blow to get Notts County, who are going well in their league.

"But we won the last time we went to Meadow Lane and they haven’t won in their last three home games so you have got to take the positives and, while it wasn’t the best draw, we will, as always, give it our best shot."
