THE Observer received a good response from last week's eight-page supplement entitled "The Fall and Rise of the Reds" which marked the 44th anniversary of Accrington Stanley's resignation from the Football League.

Stanley, founder members of the Football League, were forced to resign from the league due to debts of more than £60,000 and the directors sent a letter on March 6, 1962 which was accepted by the league on March 12.

Accrington Stanley disappeared for a short time - but were re-formed in 1968 and since then, the Reds have gone from strength to strength and now stand on the verge of a historical and emotional return to the League.

As well as the bad times, there have also been a lot of happy times and people then and now have got a lot of pleasure out of following Stanley. And those memories of last week, have prompted more people to write into the Observer with their early stories of their beloved club.
