ACCRINGTON Stanley chairman Eric Whalley believes his manager has almost everything in place to make a charge for the top of the Nationwide Conference - and he is urging the people of Accrington to come and support the Reds.

Stanley have sold a record 400 season tickets and he knows the support will be vital if they are to fulfill his dream of becoming a league club again after resigning from the league in 1962.

Whalley had a three year plan when Stanley were promoted to the Conference to get into them the league and he believes they are on the verge of this happening this season - a year early.

"We are going for it, there is no doubt about that," said the chairman, who believes going full-time will cost an extra £200,000. "I think we have a squad of 18 players now and need a keeper and a centre half and then that should be enough.

"The league is a tough one but everything is in place now. Not every team could afford to go full-time but we have taken the plunge and it is a big step forward. A realistic target is to try and win the title. We have signed quality players with League experience.

"We just want the town to get behind us."
