Rishton run Celts close

21/ 2/2008

RISHTON UNITED: The Under 10s lost 3-2 to Barrowford Celtic Orange - but it was the best result the under 10s have had against Celtic.

Joseph Aspin lobbed the keeper from just in side their half to put Rishton back on level terms.

Two more goals from Barrowford made it 3-1 before Matt Taylor managed to slot home to make it 3-2. MOTM was Thomas Threlfall despite only coming on in the second half.

In the Accrington and District League, the Under 16s drew 0-0 with Baxenden Villa. It was played on a frosty pitch with both managers deciding the game should go ahead.

It was as expected a tight game with Villa lying just two points behind third placed Rishton in the league - although Villa have two games in hands.

Rishton didn’t reproduce their usual form although they did have the better of the chances in the second half.

Tomorrow, Rishton entertain Rossendale Valley and the Reds will be looking to avenge an early in the season 2 0 defeat at Haslingdon.

The Under 12s defeated Church 7-2.

Rishton started strongly in the first half playing some good attacking football.

Goalscorers were Declan Byrom (three), Kegan Dobson (two) Jordan Williams and George Healey.

Referee's MOTM was Rishton’s captain Dylan Palmer for an outstanding all-round display.

CHURCH: The Under 10s lost 3-1 in a well fought game at Rossendale.

Church started well and dominated the first half with Kaleb Haq providing some good crosses early on.

Soon Church went 1-0 up when Cameron Noone knocked in one of Haq’s excellent deliveries.

But, when Church couldn’t increase their lead, Rossendale hit back after a rare goalkeeping error by Zack Leigh.

After the break, it was still close but then Rossendale caught Church on the break to lead 2-1.

Church then went close with a screamer from Haq but it was all in vain as Rossendale scored a disputed third soon after. Kaleb Haq was MOTM.

Great Harwood Rovers: The Under nines remained in third place after a 4-1 home win over Belthorn. Goalscorers were Nathan Cox (two), Zac Geldard and one own goal.

The Under 11s beat Rossendale Valley 4-1 with goals from Thomas Braithwaite, Sam Jones and two from Joseph Starkie with James Kenny getting the MOTM.
