GREAT Harwood celebrated their first NWCL Division One clash in 17 league games with a huge victory over Stone Dominoes.

The league's bottom club were desperate for a win and their prolific duo of Paul Mashiter and John Eastham came up with the goods.

The pair have scored 24 league goals between them this season and Eastham scored a ten-minute hat-trick and Mashiter a brace in their 5-3 victory.

"Let's hope this is the start of something," said manager Dave Sharples. "We enjoyed Saturday and it was a long time coming - our last league win was the second game of the season before I took over.

"Once again Mashy and John were outstanding, they have been since I became manager.

"We always knew they would score goals but it has been at the other end where we have had a problem. Saying that, we have condeded six goals in our last two games but have taken four points. If we can cut out the errors at the back then we should be okay.

"But the win hopefully will have done the lads theworld of good."

However, they have no rest as next up at the Showground on Saturday is third placed club Newcastle Town (ko 3pm).

"It is another test for us as they are going well but our confidence should be high," said the Robins chief.

"And we do seem to do well against the sides at the top. We drew against St Helens and against Bacup.

"It is important to build on the last two games. We enjoyed last Saturday but it counts for nothing if we don't put in another good performance this Saturday.

"The four point deduction (for fielding an ineligible player) has made it even harder but hopefully we are going in the right direction now."
