STEVE Sumner celebrated a double hat-trick of sprint gold medals.

For the second time in two weeks, the Hyndburn AC athlete has competed the treble, winning gold in the Senior Mens 100m, 200m and 400m at both meetings, the latest at the Blackpool Open.

And, to make it extra special, the 18-year-old had to do all the races in the space of three hours.

It completed a successful season for the Under 20, who has won 11 golds and four silver medals during the summer.

These include gold in the 200m and silver in the 100m at the County Championships.

He also came first in the 200m and second in the 100m at the Lancashire Schools Championships.

And Steve, a former Norden High School pupil, finished fifth in the 100m and 200m in the North Of England Championships at Sport City Manchester in June.

As well as all this, in a busy year, he competed in the AAA/World Junior Trials at the Bedford International Stadium where, in the first heat of eight athletes in the 100m, he raced against five junior internationals and finished sixth.

He also finished sixth in his 200m heat, being beaten by World Junior Champion Harry Aikines-Aryeetey.

In the current UK Under 20 Mens Rankings, Steve is third in the 300m (indoor), 48th in the 100m and 67th in the 200m.

Meanwhile, Hyndburn AC had more success at Blackpool with Thomas Dewhurst winning gold in the Under 13 Boys High Jump, Nick Rawcliffe silver in the Senior Mens 100m and bronze in the 200m and 400m while Danny Martin won a bronze in the Senior Mens Javelin.

There were also notable performances from Alicia Mulligan for the Under 13 girls and Joshua Blysniuk with the Under 13 Boys.
