WITH 2004 being Olympic year, Hyndburn's Sport and Community Development Team are appealing for help for tomorrow's generation of sports stars.
The aim is to raise £500 to help to send Team Hyndburn to the Lancashire Youth Games in Lancaster on Saturday 19 June. The games are the biggest ever multi-sports event staged in the county this year for youngsters aged from 8-19-years-old. And Team Hyndburn aims to take part in as many sports as possible.
To support the squads, coaches, team managers and officials who will join 13 other boroughs on the day - with over 4000 spectators and competitors - Team Hyndburn are looking for donations of £20 or whatever can be pledged to the cause.
Supporters of Team Hyndburn will be thanked at the after-Games celebration at Accrington Town Hall and presented with a certificate as a token of Team Hyndburn's appreciation.
England women's football international and former Hyndburn pupil Rachel Brown added her weight behind the Team Hyndburn appeal. She said: "For any young person starting out in sport, representing your borough is a great honour and an awe-inspiring one at the Lancashire Youth Games. It will give them much encouragement and the ambition to succeed and progress as they develop skills and confidence.
"The organisation of the teams and the Games takes a massive amount of work and needs your support no matter how small. The young people in Hyndburn should have fantastic experiences that they will remember for many years to come."
To help, please send donations to Sport & Community Development Leisure Services, Town Hall, Blackburn Road, Accrington BB5 1LA. All donations will be acknowledged and an update will appear in the Observer in the lead up to the Games.
