Luke Blackledge is hoping to defend his seven-match unbeaten run tomorrow – but has revealed that it hasn’t been the easiest fight to prepare for.

With so little known about Polish opponent Robert Studzinski, Blackledge has resorted to watching highlights on the internet and has admitted that he isn’t even sure that he’s watching clips of the right man!

Either way, Blackledge is confident of victory.

"I don’t know much about him to be honest," said the Accrington-based fighter. "Obviously he’s a Polish lad and it’s been difficult to get hold of footage of him. I had a look on the internet and if I’ve found the right person then he’s a tough, forward-fighting boxer.

"If that’s him then that suits me fine because that’s exactly the sort of boxer I like to fight.

"I know I’ve got to box clever and it’s possible that the game plan will have to change depending on how he approaches the fight but I’m up for it and I’m expecting a good win."

The fight, due to go ahead at Oldham Sports Arena tomorrow, is only Blackledge’s second in this format.

The Kokoro boxer is not fazed by six three-minute rounds, however, and claims that losing a few Christmas pounds was more of a challenge than seeing out 18 minutes in the ring!

"It doesn’t make a massive difference technically," he explained. "But obviously you have to train longer and harder.

"It’s more a matter of stamina now but I’ve always been fit and six rounds really isn’t a problem.

"The most important thing has been to get my weight down. Christmas hasn’t long passed and it was important for me to lose a bit of weight. I’ve done that now and I feel ready."

On hand to help has been Kenny Anderson. The British number six has been a reliable sparring partner for Blackledge and has done much to aid his pre-fight preparations.

Blackledge has also been motivated by seeing the level that Anderson is currently fighting at and has admitted to wanting a slice of the action for himself.

"I’ve done a lot of work with Kenny and it’s good getting a spar in with him," Blackledge said. "Obviously he fights at a different level. He’s British number six and he’s competing for British and Commonwealth titles.

"It does me some good to go and spar with him and hopefully one day I’ll be up at the level that he’s currently fighting at myself."

Victory over Studzinski could mean a shot at the Central Area title. Should everything go to plan, it’s expected that Rocky Fielding will lay in wait for Blackledge as the 21-year-old fighter seeks to secure his first title.

The aspiring boxer once claimed that he hoped to be a British title-holder by the time he was 26. Now, he wants one sooner than that and he’s fully aware of what he has to do to get where he wants to go.

"I’ve really got to put the work in but yes I’m ambitious," he revealed. "I’ve always wanted to win an Area title, then a Masters and then compete for a British title but you have to take the right fights and the right times in order to do that.

"If I can compete for a British title by the time I’m 25 then I’ll be happy. To be honest, the plan wasn’t to challenge for a Masters title before the end of this year but in this game you can’t be picky. You have to take what you get and I reckon I can beat him."
