Clayton Amateur Boxing Club has only been affiliated for six months – but now has two national champions.

Ellis Nuttall and Lauren Walker, both 19, impressed in the finals of the ABA Class C Championships at Gorton in their respective categories.

First up was Ellis Nuttall who boxed Victoria Baker of Portsmouth.

Ellis’s opponent came out fast and really tried to put her under pressure.

She did for about 20 seconds before Ellis landed what is becoming a trademark stiff left jab.

The bout settled down and Ellis began to land regularly with both hands.

And, in the first minute of the second round, Ellis countered with a smart one-two and the referee stopped the contest with Ellis declared national champion.

Next up was Lauren Walker who took on Becky Preest from Bristol.

Lauren managed to block her opponents substantial punches and picked quality counters averaging three per round.

This was more than enough as Lauren was moving both head and body back and forth and pivoting around to win 10-2 and she too was declared a national champion.

Clayton ABC were only affiliated in July of this year tand credit must go to the coaching team of John Burke, Dave Garratty and John Brindle.
