DANIEL Battrick was the star of the show in his first ever kick-boxing competition in Birmingham.

The seven-year-old travelled down with fellow Fit-to-Fight Kickboxing Club member Steven Barnes, 20, and both returned with silverware.

Daniel, the youngest member of the Accrington club, was facing a young fighter from Derbyshire Panthers and he held his nerve to score a knock down in the second round. And, after a well-timed roundhouse kick in the third round, Daniel got the nod from the judges.

It was a good debut from the St Oswald's pupil who has been with the club two years and is the son of owner, Billy Battrick.

And Steven made it a hat-trick of wins in the 74 kilo category. In only the third fight of his career, he stopped his opponent in the second round.

"It is his third knock down so hopefully we will get a figher who will take him the full distance next time and then we hope to put Steven in for a title fight," said Billy.
