Accrington kickboxing star Daniel Battrick is the Junior full contact British champion after winning by a unanimous points decision at the New Era.

The 11-year-old, who is based at the Fit to Fight camp at Back Wellington Street, is already the three times English tite holder and had packed 39 wins into his short career.

But this was going to be his toughest test against Scottish champion Ryan Robertshaw, also 11, who was unbeaten in his 26 bouts.

The Mount Carmel pupil - nicknamed "Dynamite" - faced five 90 second rounds at the Hyndburn show.

"It was a very tough fight for the title as both lads had trained extremely hard and the talk from the Scottish was that they very confident and they were certain they was going to win," said Daniel’s dad and coach Billy. In round one, Daniel got off to a flier but Ryan responded in round two with some good side kicks.

However, in round three, Daniel had Ryan on the canvas with a solid jab but Ryan was tough enough to make it to the bell.

In round four, Daniel scored another knockdown with a well timed sidekick but the young Scot got up only to take a barrage of punches and kicks from a determined Daniel. The referee took a close look at Ryan as the bell sounded.

Round five was a classic as Ryan knew he was behind so really went for it which made for a great battle between to junior champions. But Daniel was declared the winner to take it to 40 fights unbeaten.

Fit to Fight would like to thanks Cuisine World and Hurns Catering for helping to sponsor the gym and Daniel.
