ENFIELD skipper David Bracewell is hoping all his side are fired up on Monday as they try and save their season.

The Dill Hall Laners play at Haslingden in the 20/20 final (start 2pm) desperate to pick up some silverware from a summer which has gone downhill.

They were title challengers early on but a poor run has left them with the 20/20 final their only hope of picking up a trophy.

"I think we have won one of our last seven games and that's put us out of title contention," said Bracewell.

"Last season we started well, had a slump in June and then picked up in July, August and September and, if we had not had a slump, I think we would have won the league.

"This season we again started well but we just can't get out of the slump this time.

"We are defending scores of 130 and 140 and it is not good enough. We just have to hope someone sticks their hands up and gets a big score.

"It is a big game for us on Monday. It is the only trophy we have to play for and it can either make the season a good one or just make it an average season as it has been the last few seasons.

"While we haven't been doing so well in the league, we have managed to keep our 20/20 form going and we just have to hope everyone is fired up on Monday."

Enfield do have big guns in their ranks - like veteran bowler Bernard Reidy and batsman Andy Barker - but they will be on the sidelines on Monday as their side attempt to clinch a victory.

"We started the 20/20 with young lads and these are the ones who have got us through to the final and we will stick with them," said Bracewell. "People have said why don't we bring Bernard and Andy back but they don't want to take anyone's place who had helped us get so far.

"I can understand a young lad, who has helped us to get to the final, feeling aggrieved if he was dropped for a senior and Bernard and Andy don't want to do that."

But before the final, Enfield desperately need a pick-me-up in the league, facing Lowerhouse and local rivals Accrington this weekend.

"We could do with two good wins going into the cup final," continued Bracewell. "Accrington only beat us a few weeks ago and they had us on the ropes before that, in a rain-affected game, so we have a point to prove against them."

Enfield slipped to another loss against Todmorden on Sunday after Saturday's fixtures were wiped out with the weather. Neil Holmes was the main batsman with an unbeaten 37 - his top score of the season - in their 135-9.

Bracewell bemoaned that it was not enough - and so it proved as Tod pro Fancois du Plessis made an unbeaten 68 to add to Enfield's woes. It was a shame for Dill Hall paid man Brandon Hiini whose 6-71 was his best haul of the season.

And table topping RISHTON also suffered as they lost to third placed East Lancs who will have high hopes of a late run in the last six games to clinch the title.

Rishton would have felt comfortable enough with 200 after Jimmy Biby (39) and Saeed Anwar Junior (38) played their part.

East Lancs were set 181 in a rain-reduced target and it looked good when Scott Greaves got rid of both of the openers.

But paid man Shanan Stewart kept a steady head with 61 and Nas Iqbal smashed a quick-fire 27 to reduce Rishton's lead to 19 points.

The title hopefuls travel to Colne and face a local derby at Church in their double header weekend.

In the bottom of the table battle, it was Accrington who came out on top against Church and David Ormerod's side have now cut the gap to two points as they fight to avoid the wooden spoon slot.

Paid man Nishit Shetty was the star of the show with 77 from 76 balls with Toby Bulcock (30) and Simon Hanson (20not out) adding to the score in their 195-7. Church pro Ruvin Peiris was the pick of the bowlers with 4-73.

The Sri Lankan managed 25 with the bat before becoming one of Bulcock's four victims and Church did struggle in reply.

They threatened a late revival as Phil Gilrane (28) and Andy Bentley (42) got going in their eighth wicket partnership but Church finished 41 runs short.

Accrington are at champions Burnley tomorrow before their clash with Enfield while Church welcome Bacup tomorrow.
