ENFIELD's new professional South African Alviro Petersen will arrive with a glowing recommendation from their former paid man Martin van Jaasrveld.
Petersen is a team-mate of van Jaarsveld's at Northern Titans - he opens the batting alongside Jaques Rudlolph, the former Lowerhouse pro.
And van Jaarsveld, pro at Dill Hall Lane for three years before being snapped up by Northants last year, says Petersen can be a star for Enfield.
"He has played for South Africa A team and both Martin and Jacques have said he is a good player - he has been recommended to us and is well thought of," said Enfield chairman Geoff Dixon.
"He opens the batting for Titans while Martin is third or fourth so it shows what a good batsman he is.
"He has a hard act to following in Martin but Alviro has chatted to Martin about it and Martin has told him what it is all about. Everyone knows how highly we thought of Martin and we wish him all the luck with Northants.
"He had three brilliant seasons with us and was a model professional and hopefully Alviro will be the same."
The 23-year-old is a right handed opening batsman and right arm medium pace bowler. Since making his debut in the 2000-2001 season, Peterson has hit 1382 runs averaging 38.4 - including an unbeaten 150, three 100s and seven 50s.
He has played in England before, completing half a season for Millom in the John Smiths North Lancs and Cumbria Premier Division, hitting 690 runs at 76.7, including an unbeaten 133.
He also recorded the best bowling figures of the season when he took 7-32 against Workington.
"He took 49 wickets in 13 games for them so although he is renowned for his batting, he can bowl," added the Enfield chairman.
"He is said to be a quiet lad who is a good batsman and hopefully he will do well for us."
Church have signed Sri Lankan pro Ruvin Peiris.
Rishton are awaiting the return of a contract while Accrington are still in the hunt for a paid man.
