A NIGHT golf competition proved a big hit with members of Baxenden Golf Club.

Fluorescent lights were placed around the course to mark out the greens, bunkers and holes. Around 30 members were handed glowing golf balls and only two balls ended up lost in the rough.

Jim Eke, from the marketing team, said: "It was quite amazing really, it is difficult seeing where the ball goes in daylight sometimes but we managed okay. We played three holes and the lights were supplied by a firm called Omniglow.

"The winner Chris Brannon bogeyed the first, birdied the second and got par on the third so it didn't stop him. It was a lot of fun."

The competition was sponsored by Baxenden president Bruce Howard and the club is now considering staging other night competitions to raise money for charity. Afterwards members enjoyed a potato pie supper back at the clubhouse, in Wooley Lane.
