GREAT Harwood striker Matty Derbyshire has signed for Blackburn Rovers for an initial fee of £20,000.

The teenager has been chased by a host of clubs - including Manchester United, Liverpool and Burnley - after he scored 18 goals for the NWCL Division Two side this season. However, the Blackburn fan, who works in the community office at Ewood Park, has decided to sign for his hometown club.

Harwood have negotiated a sell-on clause and will receive further payments if Derbyshire breaks into the first team.

"It is the only club he really wanted to go to as he is a Blackburn fan," said boss John Hughes.

"It is a good figure for the club, it will pay off the overdraft and clear up a few problems," said chairman Bill Holden. "We wish Matty all the best and hope he progresses."
