IT IS vital Great Harwood now make a push for a top-four place after the restructuring of non-league football was given the green light last week.
In what is a major shake-up of the non-league scene, how it will work further down the leagues like the North West Counties are currently being looked at. It is hoped it will mean less travel for teams like Great Harwood and therefore the cost of running the club will be less.
"We don't know quite how it will work but we know we have to make sure we get into that top four," said boss John Hughes.
"We want to be in as high a league as we can. We have got to ensure we are up there at the end of the season and then see what happens with the restructuring."
The Harwood chief has been disappointed with the last two games as Harwood have only picked up two points. They played out a goalless draw with Holker Old Boys on Saturday followed by a 1-1 draw with Leek CSOB on Monday night.
Neil Zarac was the scorer for Harwood, he played up front along striker Paul Mashiter.
"It is the same old story - we are just not taking our chances," said Hughes. "We deserved to win both of them but the ball would just not go into the net. On Monday night, we hit the post, the bar and had one cleared off the line.
"They got an early goal but after that Bobby Harris in goal had nothing to do - he could have read the newspaper! - in fact he has had nothing to do in both of the games.
"Neil has done well and got a few goals now and the others will hopefully start chipping in. We just need to get the rub of the green and hopefully it will come in the next two games."
These are both away with Harwood at Winsford on Saturday (ko 3pm) and they travel to Oldham Town on Tuesday night (ko 7.45pm).
"Every game between now and the end of the season is important. But if we go out with the same attitude as we have shown in recent games, then I have no doubt that we can get the wins," added Hughes.
