Accrington has a potential champion on its hands according to boxing trainer and ex-pro Brian Roche.

Harver Younis, 19, fought in his first bout on Saturday night and blew away his more experienced opponent at Bolton Lads and Girls club.

He beat Danny Unsworth on a unanimous points decision in the ABA match and bagged himself an impressive-looking trophy to boot.

Harver, of Nuttall Street, fights out of Roche's gym in Burnley.

Brian says even after one fight he has seen enough to have high hopes for the light middleweight.

"He's doing really well. All of my lads get good experience in the gym before they fight anyone, so when they do it's easy.

"He’s really strong and really dedicated.

"He doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke and takes it very seriously.

"I’ve got really high hopes for him, I think he’ll be challenging for titles before too long.

"I'm just looking forward to him having more fights."

Speaking about Saturday’s fight, Harver said: "I was really nervous but excited at the same time.

"I was actually surprised how difficult it was, it was a really tough fight, but I had enough confidence in myself and got the win."

He says it has now given him the confidence to push on in future fights.

"The guy has already had two or three fights so for me to win on a unanimous decision just proved I must have some talent."

At 19 years-old, Harver admits he has come into the sport rather late. But the former Hollins Technology College pupil does not intend on allowing it to become an issue.

Harver said: "I have been boxing for a while on and off as a hobby.

"But now I’m at gym where I feel comfortable, the best gym in our region for me, and I’m really enjoying it.

"People have said they rated me so I really want to give it a good go now.

"It's not about how old you are, it’s about how young you feel."

Despite studying A-Levels at Burnley College, he says he wants to make a career in the sport and follow in the footsteps of his hero Roy Jones Jnr.

"I want to have 20 or 30 more amateur fights, win titles and then turn professional.

"I know it’s not going to be easy but I’m at the best club around so I'm confident I can do it."
