CLAYTON-LE-MOORS Harrier Paul Thompson celebrated London Marathon success after he finished in 75th place overall out of a strong male contingent last Sunday.

The local runner - who usually excels on the fells - clocked two hours 30 minutes and 42 seconds over the 26 miles 385 yards in hot weather.

Another Clayton Harrier Peter Butterworth, a Vet 50, finished in 2:49:42 with team-mate Jason Harbour not far behind in 2:50:41 and Graham Cunliffe clocking 2:55:25.

The first Accrington Road Runner home was Brent Hoggan who completed the gruelling course in 2:55:32.

The first local club lady was Clayton's Tracy Mitchell who enjoyed her first marathon and finished in 3:25:17.

And Clayton's Stephen White celebrated his 50th birthday on the day by racing home in 3:03:05.
