Kickboxer Mikey Worswick will be well belted up – after adding another title to his collection.

The 19-year-old martial arts star already has English and British Kickboxing titles but this time the former Rhyddings High School pupil went for a belt in a different kickboxing association

He was in York competing for the WRFA Northern Area Full-Contact crown against Joel Gartland, a personal trainer from Wakefield on the ‘Cage Confrontation 2’ bill at the weekend .

"Joel was certainly no pushover," said Mikey’s dad Richard.

"But Mikey did well and knocked him out in the fourth round."

It was another step in Mikey’s career after the bricklayer, who works at Ultraframe in Clitheroe, was given special permission by the ISKA (International Kickboxing Association) to turn professional at 17.

And he made history when he became the youngest person to win an English title as a pro at 17 – and he has successfully defended that title since.

The Kokoro battler has, however, suffered a slight setback in his quest to become a World Kickboxing Champion by the time he is 21.

Mikey, who fights at 75kg middleweight, was meant to be fighting in Toulouse in France for the European title in the next few weeks but his dad admitted: "It doesn’t look like it will happen due to his opponent and it is on hold at the moment.

"He wants to win the European title soon then he can continue his plans. He is unbeaten so far in his kickboxing career which is around 15 fights."

Mikey’s ultimate aim is to be a World Kickboxing Champion by the age of 21 - and then switch to professional boxing where he has already won a host of amateur fights.

"He has had around seven amateur boxing fights so he wants to change to boxing and hopefully go on and be successful in that sport."
