ACCRINGTON Road Runner Maureen Hartley mixed and mingled with the stars as she took part in her fifth London Marathon on Sunday.

She had her photograph taken with runner and presenter Steve Cram and rowers - and runners - Steve Redgrave and James Cracknell.

Maureen, 51, then ran the race and finished in four hours 13 minutes and was in 14,847 place and was 178th in her age group.

"It was a great day," she said. "I travelled to London on the coach with the other club members which Harry Haseley kindly arranges each year, and what a great weekend he always manages to put on.

"I ran with a red top on with "There is only one Accrington Stanley" on the back and got quite a few comments from other runners on the way around, mostly congratulating Accrington on their promotion."

Maureen ran the marathon for the East Lancs Hospice and hopes to raise around £400.

Among the other local runners, Michael Green, from Great Harwood, was up among the front runners finishing in 24th place in a time of 2:19:10 - he now lives in America.

Clayton runner David Bate finished in 3:14 in his first marathon.

And Clayton marathoner Kitty Garnett, an over 65, was compeing in her 19th London Marathon in 4.57.
