Not all sports were called off at the weekend as plenty of local runners braved the snow and ice to run the latest Red Rose Cross Country League at Blackburn.

And the weather didn’t put Clayton-Le-Moors athlete Katie Trickett off as she was the first counter in the Ladies race over 5.2km.

She finished second overall at Witton Park but the first lady was a guest and so Katie helped her club to win the team event as Jean Brown finished fourth overall – and was first over 40 – and Susan Clark was 12th of the 24 female runners braving the elements.

The Clayton ladies also won the Vets event with Jean, Susan and Dawn Richards.

In the men’s event, which was 10km, Clayton finished third behind Rossendale and Blackburn Harriers. David Edmondson (11th), Garry Wilsinson (13th), Andy Orr (16) Colin Shuttleworth (18), Mark Wightman (19) and Andrew Armstrong (22) were their counters

They did however, as a team of four, win the veterans event.

Younger runners also put themselves through their paces in the tricky conditions with Clayton’s Chris Archer third in the Under 11 Boys while Hyndburn Athletic Club’s Joshua Boyle was 10th over the 1.6km course.

In the Under 11 Girls, Alexa McTiffin won a tight race by three seconds for Hyndburn Athletic Club and, along with Katie Clark and Millie Clark, they finished second team. Clayton were just behind them in third spot with Natalya Irvine, Laura Nuttall and Eleanor Root the counters.
