POPLAR WMC could be crowned National Team CIU Snooker Champions after reaching the final of the prestigious competition.

Colin Morton, Dale Clark, Russell Large and captain Craig McDonald are the Northern champions and now have a title showdown with a team from South Wales in early July.

And the quartet have reached the final in style seeing off a team from Morecambe without dropping a frame, followed by a quarter-final 4-0 win over Old Benwell Village WMC from Newcastle, who boast two England internationals.

They then disposed of Kings Cross WMC from Halifax in the semi-final with another 4-0 win at Burnley's Rosegrove Unity Club - and their team included the former national champion, Robert Read.

Hundreds of teams started out in the competition and it is the first time this team has competed together - Russell is the latest addition.

In the last few years, the Poplar Club has reached the final three times - but they have yet to win it.
