ACCRINGTON claimed the first cricket silverware of 2003 by beating Great Harwood in a tremendous six a-side final at Moorhead School.

Accrington were crowned Hyndburn's first indoor Under-13 champions by beating their close rivals in a bowl out after the scores finished level and both teams lost an identical number of wickets.

Both managers and the tournament organizer Hyndburn Assistant Sports Development Officer Lee Boyer agreed on a bowl out which Accrington won 2-0. Mark Williams and Matt Schofield hit the target for the champions.

There was a slight problem when Accrington took a wicket in the final over of the final game - an over-enthusiastic celebration saw the sole actual match ball get stuck in the roof and the remainder of proceedings had to be finished with another kind of ball!

Other team members were Simon Hanson, Josh Armstrong, Phillip Green and Waqar and the man with the silver touch, Michael Donnelly, was the manager.

Accrington reached the final by beating Church by 18 runs. Great Harwood, who beat Accrington last week in the round robin group match, beat Oswaldtwistle Immanuel by 17 runs in the other semi final.

Church finished third by beating Immanuel and Baxenden came out on top in the play off for fifth place by beating Accrington B by 26 runs.
