DO you know a local sporting coach, volunteer or club who deserves recognition?

The people of Hyndburn are being asked to put forward their nominations for the local sports awards, designed to give recognition to the people within the borough who have made a contribution to furthering local sport.

The awards evening will take place on Friday 8 July at Accrington Town Hall which will coincide with the launch of the "Accrington Hall of Fame", which is being supported by the Observer.

It is hoped some of Hyndburn's sporting greats past and present will be there to join in the celebrations.

There are four main categories of award: Hyndburn Coach of the Year, Hyndburn Volunteer of the Year, Hyndburn Club of the Year and the Hyndburn 'Rising Star' award.

Winners from the Hyndburn heat will go forward to the Lancashire finals competing against the 13 other authorities. For the past two years, the Hyndburn Coach of the Year has also picked up the Lancashire award as well.

The nominations can be made by anyone and are available from Accrington Town Hall, Hyndburn Sports Centre and Mercer Hall, as well as by emailing george.cull@hyndburnbc.gov.uk . All nominations must be received by Tuesday 28 June. For more information contact George Cull on 01254 380288.
