RISHTON are celebrating after reaching the semi-finals of the Worsley Cup for the first time since 1987.

The Blackburn Road side, who last lifted the cup in 1973, saw off Colne on Saturday in a tense game thanks to 101 from professional Kumar Dharmasena.

"I heard after the game that it was around 18 years since we reached the semi-finals and that was when Viv Richards was at the club so I am happy to get into the last four," said the Sri Lankan.

"Hopefully we can get into the final. We have a good amateur bowling team and some good batsmen so we hope we can do it."

The draw for the semi-finals will be made on Sunday with Todmorden and favourites Haslingden through. The latter knocked out defending champions Lowerhouse.

Nelson and Ramsbottom play their quarter-final on Saturday.

Meanwhile Great Harwood top the Veka Ribblesdale League table by seven points as they look for their first league title since 1900. They have a huge game on Saturday against second-placed Barnoldswick at Cliffe Park.
