Strongest test of the season

RL: Ince Rose Bridge 28 Accrington 22

RL: Ince Rose Bridge 28 Accrington 22 - ACCRINGTON travelled to the second placed Wigan team on Saturday with high spirits after some encouraging performances in the previous weeks.

Rose bridge, renowned for their tough play, provided the Accrington team with their strongest test of the season.

In front of a hostile home crowd it was Steve Ellis with a calm boot that slotted a penalty to open up the scoring but the home team hit back with two converted tries to take their lead to 12-2 at the break.

It wasn't until the second half that the new pairing of Steve Ellis and Paul Wilcock began to torment the Rose Bridge defence, with Wilcock providing the final pass for both Martin Taylor and debutant Simon Wrigley to score.

With a 14-12 lead the two teams exchanged tries with Ian Coates and Carl Kelly scoring his long awaited first try for the club. As time ran out Accrington crossed the line twice only to be denied by the referee after some intimidation from the home crowd.

As the final whistle blew the home team took the two points which will surely see them promoted. Accrington entertain Haresfinch at Livingstone Road this Saturday KO (2.30pm).
