ACCRINGTON'S Richard Chaplow has been called up to the England Under 19 squad for their friendly with Germany.

Dick Bates' team travel to Celle, near Hanover, on Tuesday 30 March and Burnley midfielder Chaplow will be among the squad. It is the final preparation match ahead of the under 19s European qualifying games in Slovenia in April. They hope to win that to progress to the finals in Switzerland this summer.

Chaplow, 19, was initially picked for the Under 19 squad last month, but was promoted to the Under 21 side and he made his debut as a substitute at Hull City's KC Stadium.

  • ACCRINGTON teenagers Joel Byrom and Keith Barker scored the goals to send Blackburn Rovers through to the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup at the expense of big guns Manchester United. Holders United couldn't get past Rovers with Byrom scoring from the penalty spot with Barker adding a late goal at Ewood Park in front of a crowd of around 3,000 on Saturday. They now face Aston Villa in a two-legged semi-final.
