CLAYTON-LE-MOOR Harriers veterans team got one over on their A team at the inaugural running of the Mary Towneley Loop on Sunday.

The 47-mile relay, organised by Rossendale Harriers, was split into five legs starting at Fearns High School in Bacup through Worsthorne, Hedben Bridge, Littleborough and Whitworth and finishing back at Fearns along the Pennine Bridleway.

Horwich A won overall, with a time of five hours 10 mins and 36 seconds altogether - two minutes ahead of Pudsey and Bramley.

The Clayton Vets team came in fourth and, although the Clayton A team were leading the whole thing after leg one, they finished one minute and 12 seconds behind their vets team in fifth place.

39 teams entered the event - including 10 from Clayton - with Accrington Road Runners A mixed team coming in at 27th place. Just two ahead of them were Clayton Ladies who finished second ladies team behind Horwich.
