Improved Ladies hope for promotion

ACCRINGTON Stanley Ladies look set to finish fourth in the LFA Womens’ County League Division Two league in only their second season as a team.

And the club are eagerly waiting to see if they are promoted as the fifth placed team made it to Division One last season.

"To finish fourth is virtually like winning the league," said head coach Chris Boden, with the team finishing bottom last season with just one win.

"The three sides above us, Curzon Ashton, Wigan Athletic and Sefton Perroni, all entered in the summer and are far better than our standard and are comfortably good enough to challenge at the league above.

"I'm absolutely thrilled with the girls.

"We have added significantly to the squad, in terms of quality and experience, although we are still an extremely young side learning all the time.

"But the girls have shown a marked improvement both in their ability and understanding of the game. I know fourth place doesn't sound like much of an achievement but it is a big reward for their efforts and hopefully we will get a promotion out of it.

"If not, depending on the quality of the teams joining next season, we will have a good crack at getting out of the league by right."

The girls have won five of their 15 games and play their final game of the season against second placed Wigan at Wilsons on Sunday (ko 2pm).
