STANLEY'S history up to 1962 is well documented.

The tragic story of how they gave up their Football League status because of a debt which today would have been thought of as piffling is part of the town's folklore.

But there has also been triumph and tragedy since the Stanley name was revived in 1968 by a group of fans led by the late Bill Parkinson.

Stanley's roll of honour as a non-league team is listed below.

Now they have a glorious chance to turn the wheel full circle with promotion back to the Football League which they graced for so many years:

1971/72: Lancashire Combination Cup Winners; League Cup Winners; George Watson Trophy Winners; Lancashire Combination Runners-up.

1972/73: Lancashire Combination Cup Winners.

1973/74: Lancashire Combination Champions; Lancashire Combination Cup Winners (retained for 3rd year).

1974/75: George Watson Trophy Winners.

1975/76: Lancashire Combination Runners-up.

1976/77: Lancashire Combination Cup Winners.

1977/78: Lancashire Combination Champions.

1979/80: Cheshire League Division Two Runners-up.

1980/81: Cheshire League Division Two Champions.

1983/84: Lancashire ATS Challenge Trophy Runners-up.

1985/86: John Duckworth Trophy Winners.

1994/95: Anglo-Barbados Cup Winners; North West Alliance Cup Winners.

1995/96: North West Alliance Cup Runners-up.

1996/97: Lancashire ATS Challenge Trophy Runners-up.

1999/2000: Unibond First Division Champions.

2001/02: Unibond League Challenge Cup Winners; Lancashire Marsden Challenge Trophy Winners; Peter Swales Unibond League Shield Winners.

2002/03: Unibond League Premier Division Champions.

2003/04: Nationwide Conference Football for first time in history.
