OLDHAM came back down to earth after their fine win over Leigh with this defeat on Humberside.
The Roughyeds failed to contain a physical and determined Rovers pack in which former Super League stars Anthony Seibold, Harvey Howard and Dean Busby made important contributions.
The introduction of former Wigan and GB prop Howard, ex-Warrington forward Busby and veteran Paul Fletcher off the bench gave the Robins vital impetus.
After a scoreless opening quarter Rovers seized control when ex-Salford star Nick Pinkney went over for the game's opening try after a 40/20 from former-Rochdale halfback Latham Tawhai.
Busby and Paul Pickering went over before the break as Rovers opened up a 17-0 lead with Lynton Stott adding two conversions and Tawhai a drop-goal.
Though Phil Farrell capitalised on a Seibold mistake to put Oldham back in the game, Simon Svabic converting, Seibiold made amends with a converted try.
Lee Doran's break was finished off by Paul Anderson to give the Roughyeds some consolation.
