Last year’s Rotaract bonfire

Fireworks displays will be lighting up the borough this weekend as part of Bonfire Night celebrations.

Several organisations are holding bonfires and fireworks displays for the whole family to enjoy on Saturday, November 3.

More than 4,000 people are expected to attend an event at Accrington Cricket Club organised by the Rotaract Club of Hyndburn. Zoe Farnsworth, president of Rotaract Club, said this year’s event will have a bit of added sparkle.

She said: “We are having the biggest fireworks display we have ever had. Each year we have been doing a little more.

“It’s also a very safe event for families because everything is on site.”

The club has been holding annual bonfire displays for 15 years and the evening is also its biggest annual fundraiser.

Brave youngster Finley Rosbotham, three, will be lighting the bonfire. Zoe said: “It’s a just a good local community event. We raised more than £4,000 during last year’s bonfire and we are hoping for a similar figure this year.”

Free parking will be available. Gates open at 6pm at the cricket club on Thorneyholme Road.

The bonfire will be lit at 7pm and the fireworks display will begin at 7.30pm.

The Globe Club is also holding a bonfire and fireworks display on Saturday from 6.30pm at Bullough Park, Willows Lane, Accrington.

And the Stanhill Inn in Stanhill is lighting a bonfire and fireworks at the pub on Stanhill Road. The bonfire will be lit at 6.15pm on Saturday with fireworks scheduled for 8pm.
