Kind-hearted students are holding a fun day in aid of our Finley’s Friends Appeal.

Sixth form student Hollie Southwood, 17, from Accrington Academy and seven friends are studying level three BTEC sport and, as part of the course, they have to organise a community event.

Hollie knows Paige, who is the sister of Finley Rosbotham, the face of our appeal, and she and the other BTEC students decided to use the fun day to raise money.

The Accrington Observer is trying to raise £20,000 for Holly House specialist child development centre. The event will include a bouncy castle, 95ft obstacle course, gladiator duel, and other activities such as a penalty shoot-out with the Accrington Stanley mascot, tin can alley games, cactus hoolpa and lots more.

There are also refreshments on throughout the day, a burger van, ice-cream van, sweet stands and cake stalls.

Holly said the group had been planning the event for weeks and selling tickets in assemblies to fellow pupils as well as visiting primary schools to promote the fun day.

She said; “We've organised small events so far but the last one has to be a big event so we decided to do it for charity.

“We want to raise as much money as we can and get a lot of people there.” Also organising the event are Grace Warburton, Kim Robinson, Alex Halstead, Declan Connelly, Sam Griffin and Ross Gilrane. The fun day is on Sunday, May 26 from 12noon till 3pm at Accrington Academy.

Tickets are £2 before the day and £3 on the door.
