A teenage boy has suffered serious head injuries after the car he was travelling in collided with a tree.

The 17-year-old, from Huncoat, was a passenger in a Vauxhall Corsa being driven along Lee Road between Rishton and Great Harwood when it lost control, veered off the carriageway and collided with a tree.

Police said he suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital.

The driver, a 21-year-old male from Accrington, suffered only minor injuries.

The incident happened at around 5.15am on Sunday, September 15 and the road was closed for four hours for recovery and police investigation.

Officers said the weather was fine and dry at the time of the crash and are appealing for anyone with information to call Lancashire Police on 101.
